MGLFE - JULY SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER + MEMBERSHIP MEETING

LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THIS JULY!

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER + MGLFE MEMBERSHIP MEETING!
Please join us for this exciting event scheduled for July 16, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM.

We're honored to welcome Brandi Morey-Pols, Founder and CEO of The Rowan Project, a national nonprofit dedicated to filicide prevention, child protection, victim advocacy, and legislative reform.

Following the murder of her six-year-old son, Rowan, in 2024, Brandi transformed her grief into action, becoming a leading voice for families impacted by domestic violence, family court failures, and child homicide.

Brandi is the driving force behind Rowan's Act, landmark Michigan legislation expanding AMBER Alert eligibility to better protect endangered children. She works closely with law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, legislators, and survivor families across the country to identify systemic gaps and drive meaningful change.

Her presentation will explore:

  • Lessons learned from Rowan's case.

  • Opportunities for collaboration between professionals and advocates.

  • The critical role of multidisciplinary partnerships in preventing future tragedies.

Brandi's presentation will be followed by a short and sweet Membership Meeting.

JUNE - POLICY & SYSTEMS CHANGE COMMITTEE MEETING III

JOIN IN FOR THE JULY SYSTEMS & POLICY CHANGE COMMITTEE MEETING

Our third meeting of the Policy & Systems Change Committee brings us full circle: we'll review all of the information discussed in Meetings I and II, and share an important update on MDHHS's response to our ongoing dialogue.

Building on the groundwork laid with MCEDSV and the framework we began developing for statewide education, training, and competency, this session will help us assess where things stand and what MGLFE's next steps look like in leading this effort forward.  This is a key checkpoint as we continue turning ideas into a real roadmap for supporting examiners and the survivors they serve throughout Michigan.

Looking forward to seeing you there!  The THIRD SESSION will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM!

AUGUST - MGLFE JOURNAL CLUB

COME AND JOIN IN FOR THE AUGUST MGLFE JOURNAL CLUB!

The intent of the Journal Club is to explore current research applicable to our practice. Each meeting of the Journal Club will consist of reporting on multiple articles chosen that are relevant to a specific topic.  We then discuss both the information presented as well as our own experiences.  Finally, we identify opportunities to apply the new knowledge to our practice.

The topic for journal club and the articles to be read will be emailed about two weeks before the meeting.  Because of the potential for using articles that are not open-sourced, we need to have members sign up for the email group if they are interested in attending Journal Club.

If you are interested in attending the next Journal Club Meeting on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 3:00 PM, please be sure to contact Beth Curley by clicking the link below or at Beth.Curley@trinity-health.org.
